I guess this means that those people who do not get to hear the "good news of the kingdom" will be spared at Armegeddon since they were not permitted to chose whether to allign themselves with Jehovah or allign themselves with Satan?

And what about the monotheistic peoples who do not get to hear the "good news?"

I am Jehovah. You shall not have any gods before me.

Doesn't that right there condemn them to destruction?

Does the society plan to parachute missionaries into the jungles of Amazon so that they can witness to these isolated tribes?

What about the poor Islamic women who are forbidden to leave their homes? Do they get to hear the "good news?" That might entail opening the door to men holding Watchtowers. Islamic women cannot have any contact with males who are not family members. To do so would mean being lashed with a whip or worse. And women cannot walk around in public without family males escorting them. So will the society provide a husband/wife pioneer team to witness to Islamic women?

I love how the org is covering their asses on this one. "To Jehovah's satisfaction."

"I see you are still alive"

i went to the local post office today.. a car pulled up with 2 men and a young woman inside.. i smiled and said, "hi.

" the man who was driving waved, backed out of the parking space and moved 3 spaces down towards the next business in the strip mall.. the driver walked over and said, "i see you are still alive.".

i said, "yes, god has kept me alive for the last 3 years.

Bullies always run when confronted.

Plus, he spoke to you first and technically he's the one who started the spiritual discussion first by asking you when you're planning on coming back into the org.. Still alive.....what the hell did he expect?! Jehovah to have struck you down the minute you left the org?!

Children-any went from JW to Atheist?

we rode past the kingdom hall a few days ago, when my daughter (8) said, "that's the church mommy and i used to go to.

i said, "yes, it is, and we do not go to any religious places anymore.

" i said that b/c i can't bear to take her to any even if she wants to go.

Even though I'm an adult in my thirties (no children), I was raised a JW, lost my "faith" around 14, kept it secret, completely lost belief in god during my late twenties, and still keep it secret because my folks are faithful JWs. It's been a long road. But I'm happier now as an atheist than I ever was as a JW.

Your children are fortunate. They're still young and can explore all the possibilites and make up their own minds later. If they would be raised as a JW, they would never get to question anything, they would miss out on school activities, they would be discouraged from seeking higher education, and on.

not having a formal jc meeting, but just an instance when some elder took it upon himself to "adjust" your thinking (or behavior).. here's one of mine.

it still is infuriating to me two years later.. there was a sister who had three young daughters (4 to 9 years) and a husband, all in the org.

Since I'm still getting to know all of you, tell me about an incident when you were pulled aside and counseled. Not having a formal JC meeting, but just an instance when some elder took it upon himself to "adjust" your thinking (or behavior).

Here's one of mine. It still is infuriating to me two years later.

There was a sister who had three young daughters (4 to 9 years) and a husband, all in the org. She is my age. Rumor had it than when she was 12 or so, she nearly drowned. They said she had a little bit of brain damage because of that. This brain damage excuse was used to defend her irritating and abrasive nature. By abrasive nature, I meant that she constantly said hurtful things to people such as "That dress really makes you look fat!" She said that to a diabetic sister who constantly struggled with her weight. Or she would say things like "Keeping up with the Jones', eh?" She said that to a financially poor family who had saved up a couple of years and just purchased a 4 year old Chevy Malibu.

Point is, she was just a bitch. But, no one ever "counseled" her because of this supposed "brain damage." And if they did, no one ever knew about it.

Anyway, she would smack her three young daughters very frequently. Out in the main hall. In front of everyone. For absolutely no reason 90% of the time. Like if one girl would adjust herself in the seat, SMACK! Or if another girl giggled at something, SMACK!

She would physically push her daughters too. Like when they were picking their seats out, and one girl was busy looking at something or talking to someone, she would grab the girl and push her into the seat aisle.

I have a problem with relying on physcial punishment to discipline children. A swat on a butt occasionally to shock them and get their attention, I understand. But this woman always seemed to have her hands on her children for even the slightest infraction. It made me so angry that I would just cringe and grit my teeth during the meetings.

One night, they were sitting right in front of me. One little girl dropped her song book on the floor under her chair. I reached down, picked it up, and handed it to her. When the little girl turned around and smiled at me, her mother reached over, grabbed one of her hair's pig tails, and pulled it!

After the meeting, I leaned over and whispered to the mother "If you hit another one of those girls, I'll hit you." No cursing, I didn't raise my voice, I just said that as calmly as I would say 'I'll see you later.'

A week later, after a TM school meeting, two elders came up to me and asked to speak to me a moment. They told me that she had went to them saying I was threatening violence toward her and how she didn't know why. First I told them my exact words. I proceeded to tell them that, in my opinion, she was very abusive to her children and that I had a reflex reaction and couldn't help but say that to her. It was a knee jerk reaction.

I was counseled, with scriptures too, about turning the other cheek, not being violent, showing love, yap yap yap.

I highly doubt anything was ever said to her. They switched congregations about 6 months after that.

I'm still steamed about that incident.

Maybe I was wrong to "threaten" her (it wasn't a threat, it was a promise LOL) but I really couldn't stand to watch her constantly beat her children.

so we had our book study last night.

Funny. I never made my own decision to get baptised. My mother said, "You need to hurry up and make up your mind about baptism" which translated as "You will get baptised at the next assembly so hurry up and go talk to the elders."

End of story for me.

I was baptised in a galvanized tub that livestock had drank out of just the previous week. Everyone thought that was soooo cute.

I have to pass this damn thing everytime I go to a meeting.

It is so insulting, ridiculous, depressing and frightening that they would even try to pass this off with a straight face.

I have to resist the urge to snatch it off the bulletin board and tear it to pieces.

Mark my words, soon the GB will "suggest" that JWs start dressing in "proper attire" in their day to day lives, i.e., meeting clothes 7 days a week to further "stand out from the crowd and give a witness for Jehovah." There will be elders dropping by unexpectedly, checking that the family is wearing proper attire when eating dinner. Going to the grocery store in jeans and being spotted by another JW will entail a JC meeting. You may be DF'd for being unrepentant and continuing to wear jeans and beat up sneakers when you mow your lawn.

Tell me that couldn't happen!

Suicide story - How many times does this happen.

a pioneer couple were obviously poor so they shoplifted some meat from the supermarket...they were caught and charged and being a small town everyone would know about it, so they killed themselves before the elders could organise a linch mob.

sad story.. another brother just drove off a cliff....brothers would later say how he must have felt guilty over something...idiots!

not nice....he may have been mentally ill or had other issues.. does this happen alot around the world with witnesses under so much pressure to be perfect?.

I notice you live down in Oz, did these things happen to some of the JWs from your area?

I think it happens quite a bit actually and we don't hear about the majority of the cases because the JWs hush them up. Wouldn't want to put the Org in a bad light, you know!

I tried to commit suicide when I was 14. And yes, it was because of being born and raised in the Borg and all the issues that come with it.

Guilt, fear, isolation, anger, depression, paranoia, hopelessness, herd mentality, stifled potential.....

I wanted to die. Death appeared 1000 times better than life as a JW.
